Pain as a result of wisdom teeth is a common problem for patients. While some individuals are able to comfortably accommodate these new molars, the majority of people don’t have the space, which causes impaction. Some impacted wisdom teeth don’t cause any immediate problems, but for many, they can result in significant pain and health risks.
Impacted wisdom teeth can cause inflammation and leave you vulnerable to infection and swelling. Because this area is in such close proximity to your facial muscles, this can lead to pain in the jaw as well as the gums.

The procedure is usually outpatient, meaning that you should be able to go home the same day. Just make sure to arrange to have someone drive you home as you likely won’t be able to drive safely on your own right after your procedure.

Not always. Wisdom teeth may not need to be removed if they’re healthy, fully erupted (grown in), and not affecting your bite. However, if you’re experiencing pain or difficulty brushing and flossing the area, or if x-rays indicate problems down the line, wisdom tooth removal is usually necessary.
